The extinct volcano Cayambe contains the highest point on earth through which the equator passes at exactly 4.530m altitude near the south flank. Despite its location at the equator it is most renown for having the largest and arguably the most beautiful glaciers in Ecuador. As the third highest peak in Ecuador, Cayambe was first conquered in 1880 by Edward Whymper and the Carrel brothers. This mountain belongs to the National park Cayambe-Coca. Due to its technical difficulty, it is less visited than other mountains, despite its close proximity to Quito. For those who do reach the summit the experience and views will be memories for a lifetime.
Note: The itinerary of the adventure tour can be changed by the guide due to security reasons (climate, conditions etc) as well as by the national park administration due to changing national park rules. Nevertheless the security and the interest of the participants will always have first priority.
