Ruminahui is an extinct volcano in the Cotopaxi National Park about 45Km southwest of Quito only 13 km northwest of Cotopaxi with a wide high plain between the two volcanoes. The Volcano is named after a famous general of the last Inka Atahualpa Ruminahui what means “face of stone” and seeing the huge rocky summit of this volcano it is easy to understand why. Located quite in the middle of the central valley of the northern Ecuadorian Andes you have great views from its top. But also the hike up through the national park is very interesting as you get a really good insight in the flora and with a little bit of luck also fauna of the Andes. Watch out for the Andean Colibri and the Condor and get to know about the healing powers of plants like the Chuquirahua or the Valeriana. |
