Teaching materials
The following teaching material, developed to a large part by the school, will be provided:
- textbook
- work book
- a copybook for grammar and vocabulary
- a copybook for your Spanish diary
- exercise book
- books with additional texts to work from
- magazines, newspapers etc. for further learning exercises
In addition to normal time tabled instruction, the teachers will call their pupils twice during the course, for up to 30 minutes, to chat and help practice telephone manner and converse regarding relevant subject material previously discussed in class. This is a great way for students to immerse themselves in every day life activities outside of the classroom, and apply their new knowledge of the Spanish language.
After concluding the course, pupils are able to continue their Spanish study over the internet, roughly around 2 hours per week, when the pupil will work on grammar, text and vocabulary through school set tasks. Pupils will also write their Spanish diary and send this by email to the school to be revised for grammar and textual errors. The school in return will send corrections and a new task within a few days.
Additional Activities
In our opinion an important component for success during lessons is the relationship between teachers and pupils. In order to become better acquainted, we have an informal framework with several activities outside of the classroom which we strongly encourage students to participate in. Activities include a common breakfast, where everyone cooks together, or go out for a meal, visit markets, watch stage performances, concerts, or sporting events. We also visit exhibitions, go to the cinema or simply meet somewhere comfortable to converse about our experiences. All of these will be conducted in Spanish and help you to make a friend of your teacher.
Upon request we will gladly organize tours into the mountains, trekking, or perhaps trips into the jungle; anything can be organized here in Ecuador!
Weekend excursions
Each weekend we offer a trip outside of Quito, so that students can shake of the city life and see some of the beautiful locations that this picturesque country has to offer. We organize these trips as a large family, with everyone invited, and besides the well-known sites, some of the less known sites will be visited, making your experience altogether more varied and in-depth, providing you with a better understanding and awareness of Ecuador.
Depending on the destination, the trips last between one and two days. Popular sites are; Zumbahua - Quilotoa, Otavalo - Cotacachi, Mindo, Baños - Puyo, Papallacta, volcano Pululahua and volcano Pichincha. And of course, we emphasise that you speak in Spanish during these tours; after all, this is a Spanish school!
